The playlist of new pop project NAQT VANE highlights the influence of chart-topping pop on the duo.
New pop duo NAQT VANE consists of producer Hiroyuki Sawano and vocalist Harukaze, with Sawano also known for his work as a composer of soundtracks for dramas, videogames and anime such as Attack on Titan. The duo’s debut single “Break Free” was released last month.
To introduce their style and project, NAQT VANE curated a playlist for The Glow. Sawano and Harukaze chose three songs each according to the theme of ‘songs that influenced my artist career’.

I started to dream about becoming a singer when I was in elementary school, and I always sang this at home to practice. I never knew what it really meant when I was young, but I always knew that it was a great song.
The first song I LOVED. I love every little thing about this song. I grew up listening to Tatsuro Yamashita and he’s been my legend for life. Whenever I’m stuck with my life I always listen to this song and remember my pure younger self.
Without this song I wouldn’t be on this and I’d be stuck in a society where I couldn’t break free. With this song I’ll be challenging various things to set myself free. This song is my starting line and will always be very important in my life path.
The fusion of orchestra and rock influenced me a lot.
I think it’s very cool to see how this band has evolved through using new sound approaches every time they come back with a new tune.
The experimental digital sound attracted me while I was watching Alita: Battle Angel.
