Boris follow last year’s sludging, raw and punky No with a record that is less aggressive but no less ominous and tectonic. Here Wata, Atsuo and Takeshi draw out tension through drones and shoegazing guitars, structured in an altogether more formless and abstract manner. Even if the political or social messaging of this and the previous work isn’t so clear (after all, No plus W equals Now), together both records are an apt summary of the chaos of our times – and Boris’s phenomenal ability to adapt to them.
