Fake Creators sees two celebrated forces in modern Japanese music combine: LITE, one of the country’s most distinguished math rock bands, and electronic musician and producer Dé Dé Mouse. The resultant merger on FAKE pitches a kind of technical rock and rattling electronica that is thrillingly without limits: magnificent blares of breakbeats rub shoulders with tactile drumming; LITE’s signature longform, washing brand of math is accompanied by battering drum and bass; gorgeous synth passages and rumbling beats meet thunderous dub. The overall experience can feel rather scattered and more than a little overwhelming – but the uninhibited amount of innovation, front-to-back, is tremendously exciting.
