One listen of Half-way+Fly and you might conclude that this thing is all over the place – not least because, well, it absolutely is. Kohta Ohtake’s style shifts between digital bleeps and EDM-scale drops, futuristic disc scratches and massive pop hooks. He’s as capable of trap beats and slow, rolling funk as he is of seriously strange music details. And all of that is exactly his charm: Ohtake refuses to settle on Half-way+Fly and, in the process, musters a release which is diverse, dextrous, and really quite special.
