A technical and abstract work, Humanity is most rewarding when out of its longform digital soundscapes emerge tuneful or rhythmically-driven phases clearly influenced by dance music or hip hop. Koji Nakamura (prev. Supercar, LAMA) and foodman (a.k.a Takahide Higuchi) provide the electronics, with Takashi Numazawa (prev. Theatre Brook, Rabbit) on drums, and, in truth, Numazawa is the star attraction. Capable of laying out both loose, tactful jazz rhythms and boldly-defined structures, his drumming adds a muscular edge to Humanity’s digital textures. Numazawa anchors Humanity through all of its accessible grooves, lush atmospheres and eccentric electronic splurges.
