Ohzora Kimishima introduced his full-length debut Eitaisuru Kemuri [sort of To Be Reflected in Smoke or To Reflect Smoke on Film] on Twitter as ‘dedicated to the sunsets of the past and future’, and in that he set an apt mood for the work that follows. While Kimishima has made a name for himself in recent years through EPs and production credits, he’s saved his full debut until now – and it lives up to the billing. This is folktronica which glitters and jangles exorbitantly, which has the plush, characterful ambience of flickering film reel and which is at-ease shifting between styles and phases. It’s profoundly expansive and unutterably gorgeous, a suitably accomplished piece from an artist who has now satisfied years’ worth of excitement and hype.
