Moe Sasaki’s ‘snowy’ moniker is so-called due to her desire to express the blizzard landscapes of her native Hokkaido in musical form. The thermograph EP is the project’s first work, featuring Sasaki (also of pop group Edoga Sullivan) as primary singer, songwriter and producer – and, for a solo debut, it’s remarkably accomplished. thermograph manages pattering garage beats and cacophonous nu-jazz, dream pop ethereality and baroque wind sections. Overall, it achieves exactly what it sets out to do: it’s so easy to hear thermograph and be whisked into wintry lands: cushioned, starlit and solitary.
